Is it normal for blood sugar levels to fall into the upper 60′s 1 hour after a high carb meal?
I am 20 years old and weigh about 110. About an hour after eating high carb meals my sugar seems to drop low is this normal?
Does smoking cigarettes an hour or less before a fasting blood test create higher blood sugar levels?
I recently had to do a full blood test where I had to fast for at least 14 hours beforehand. I had nothing but water before I went in which was fine. I did not know that I wasn’t supposed to smoke before so I had 2 cigarettes within the hour of going in for the test. My blood sugar results were 101 which is considered “possible pre-diabetes” if you were fasting. My question would be if it could possibly be the nicotine that caused the jump to right above normal, normal being 99 and below. I’m just wondering if this could be the problem because I’m only 24 years old, exercise normally, am NOT close to being overweight (or underweight, I’m 5’4 and 122 lbs) and have a decent diet, and diabetes does not run in my family so I was just surprised by this occurrence. Wondering if anyone has any insight. FYI — I already asked the nurse I spoke with and she said she was not at liberty to answer and the doctor would have to look everything over after I did another blood test. I’m looking for information, not answers stating “ask your doctor” I already have another appointment for next week.
Thanks for your answers, I didn’t intend to come across saying that you had to be overweight to have diabetes, I was just giving facts just in case someone asked if I was overweight.
WHat is normal blood sugar levels after eating? mine was 80?
Is 80 a normal number! i ate about an hour or longer before i took it! I am not a diabetic but it just seems a lil low considering all i ate
Are these blood sugar levels alright? (Gestational diabetes)?
Do these levels seem alright? I thought they were a little low .. my doctor said that 2 out of 4 levels were high for my 3 hour GTT and that they weren’t even that “bad” .. but regardless I’ve been diagnosed with GD and I’ve been following the diet fine .. and I only started the diet yesterday .. but do these seem normal? The doctor wants me to stay under 90 for fasting and under 130 an hour after meals. (NOT two hours, one hour!)
Day 1
F-81
B-103
L-105
D-91
Day 2
F-92 (2 over my ideal .. not that bad I don’t think!)
B-120
L-98
D-111
Just worried .. thanks! ![]()
pegz64 — no they don’t, my doctor said under 130 an hour after the three big meals (breakfast, lunch, & dinner) .. i think i already said this?
& why would I need 3-4 times the insulin when I’m not on any insulin in the first place .. ? My doctor’s office said it’s very rare for them to put anyone on insulin .. & I am not on it!
Normal blood sugar levels?
Fasting – 9:30 AM – 72
1 hour after breakfast (bowl of Special K) – 12:30 PM – 104
1 hour after lunch (1 can Beef-a-Roni) – 2:00 PM – 123
2 hours after lunch – 3:00 PM – 85
My doctor said I have Gestational Diabetes. I saw a dietitian today, so I am starting my diet tomorrow. My levels seem fine though? Just curious, because I don’t see the issue here besides my unhealthy eating. (WHICH IS NOT NORMALLY WHAT I DO!)
Where is the problem? Are these normal?
How are the levels low? I was told to keep my fasting level below 90 and an hour after a meal to be below 130. I don’t see how they are low.
My doctor said to test one hour after eating, but I have been testing 1 AND 2 hours after.
I figured. My doc is an idiot sometimes. I really feel for you diabetics, I have a higher chance of developing it later on in life now that I have GD, and I know this isn’t a picnic so I can only imagine how it is for you guys! ![]()

Nope, I fasted 8 hours before the test like my doctor told me to. I just don’t understand how I was diagnosed with it, although I do have risk factors (overweight, not too active pre-pregnancy, etc) but really I don’t get it because my readings look normal to me, and if I were to show them to the doctor they’d say they were normal too, I think? I am following within guidelines, my doctor said below 90 for fasting and below 130 an hour after eating. My doctor’s office is full of morons, they probably switched mine with someone else’s, as they’ve screwed up 90% of EVERYTHING that I’ve been through there since my first appointment.

What is the normal fluctuation for blood glucose levels?
I checked my glucose levels, which came to be 97. About an hour later, I checked again, and it was 68. I ate my lunch, and checked once more, getting 83, but again, hardly an hour later it had dropped back down to 69. My question is: Is the fluctuation of 20 or so values dangerous or significant? What is a healthy fluctuation bracket?
