Does smoking cigarettes an hour or less before a fasting blood test create higher blood sugar levels?

I recently had to do a full blood test where I had to fast for at least 14 hours beforehand. I had nothing but water before I went in which was fine. I did not know that I wasn’t supposed to smoke before so I had 2 cigarettes within the hour of going in for the test. My blood sugar results were 101 which is considered “possible pre-diabetes” if you were fasting. My question would be if it could possibly be the nicotine that caused the jump to right above normal, normal being 99 and below. I’m just wondering if this could be the problem because I’m only 24 years old, exercise normally, am NOT close to being overweight (or underweight, I’m 5’4 and 122 lbs) and have a decent diet, and diabetes does not run in my family so I was just surprised by this occurrence. Wondering if anyone has any insight. FYI — I already asked the nurse I spoke with and she said she was not at liberty to answer and the doctor would have to look everything over after I did another blood test. I’m looking for information, not answers stating “ask your doctor” I already have another appointment for next week.
Thanks for your answers, I didn’t intend to come across saying that you had to be overweight to have diabetes, I was just giving facts just in case someone asked if I was overweight.

I’m not diabetic but I still have high blood sugar readings, why is this?

Diabetes runs in the family. My mother, sister, gran, etc all have it. Randomly I did a blood check (the pinprick machine) one morning and I had 7.0 (very high before breakfast considering it should be between 4 and 6). So I had a slice of wholegrain toast and went from 9 to 3 without eating. Did another pinprick test and I got 11.2, I’m like “woah”. So I go to the doctor’s and they say “right, fasting blood glucose check”. I waited a few days, did the fasting blood test and controlled my sugar levels throughout the week by eating very healthily, counting carbs and taking cinnamon tablets to help lower blood sugar. Although still very slightly high they weren’t as bad – I was waking up with 4.5 and 2 hours after wholegrain I had 6.2. On Tuesday I received my results and I was absolutely fine – my average is 5.5 and the range was from 3.5 – 6. Thinking that I was back to normal I went to university and had lasagne and lots of coffee. I got back just now (3 hours after eating), washed my hands, did a pinprick test and I got 16.2… in a few words, what on earth is going on? Are my results wrong? :(

Question about fasting blood sugar levels?

In the last 2 months, I have been in and out of the hospital with viral/asthmatic issues. Had steroids given as part of treatment. How long will this have an effect on the sugar levels? I have been off the steroids for about 3 weeks- prior to that I had two different kinds at varying doses.

Doctor wanted to do a fasting blood test- when I checked mine at home it was 146. Yesterday after my appointment I checked it and it was 93 (12:30 pm). I had eaten prior to my appointment.

I am overweight- due to the meds I have been on. BP is not anything out the ordinary usually 120/75 give or take on what I have been doing. Don’t go to the bathroom anymore than usual. Appetite is normal to below normal….

Have had blood work come back showing low potassium and possible anemia- doctor said that this would be why I am tired. When I try to exercise- asthma flairs up.

Is this diabetes?
