    This prospective study was conducted on 30 non diabetic men and women with acute myocardial infarction (AMI)admitted to a tertiary hospital in Bijapur,India. The cases were divided into group I to IV based on random blood sugar(RBS) i.e.,< 120mg%,120- 139mg%, 140- 167mg% and > 167mg% at the time of hospital admission. The subjects with higher RBS at the time of hospital admission were also found to have lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. During their hospital stay a greater incidence of developing cardiogenic shock and lower left ventricular ejection fraction were noticed among the patients who were having greater RBS at the time of hospital admission.The study clearly reveals that RBS level of the patients at the time of hospital admission may be a potential indicator of hospital stay mortality among non diabetic patients presenting with AMI

After the surgery his dr put him on insulin along with the pills. His dr started lowering his doses of insulin because his sugar levels were running way to low (in the 50′s overnight). The last 2 days he hasn’t had any insulin, the highest number he’s had has been 244 (after eating), but drops within an hour. My question is since he just stopped taking the insulin, how high should his blood sugar get before we start worrying about it?

My mother, sister, gran, etc all have it. Randomly I did a blood check (the pinprick machine) one morning and I had 7.0 (very high before breakfast considering it should be between 4 and 6). So I had a slice of wholegrain toast and went from 9 to 3 without eating. Did another pinprick test and I got 11.2, I’m like “woah”. So I go to the doctor’s and they say “right, fasting blood glucose check”. I waited a few days, did the fasting blood test and controlled my sugar levels throughout the week by eating very healthily, counting carbs and taking cinnamon tablets to help lower blood sugar. Although still very slightly high they weren’t as bad – I was waking up with 4.5 and 2 hours after wholegrain I had 6.2. On Tuesday I received my results and I was absolutely fine – my average is 5.5 and the range was from 3.5 – 6. Thinking that I was back to normal I went to university and had lasagne and lots of coffee. I got back just now (3 hours after eating), washed my hands, did a pinprick test and I got 16.2… in a few words, what on earth is going on? Are my results wrong? :(

    I was started on medication (Metformin, 500mg, twice a day). Based on a hunch, I got myself one of those blood sugar measuring devices, stopped taking the medication for a couple of days and started taking my own readings.

    This revealed my fasting (of 12 hours) blood sugar to be 5.6 mmol/L, two hours after breakfast to be 6.7 mmol/L, two hours after lunch to be 6.5 mmol/L and 6.9mmol/L after dinner and before bedtime. If I’m to believe what I’ve been reading, this is a normal blood sugar level of a person without diabetes.

    I’ve stopped taking medication for over a week now and have been monitoring my blood sugar level, and it’s been around the figures I’ve mentioned above when taken randomly as well. Should I stop taking medications and go on with my life? Could I have been misdiagnosed?
