Food Safety for People with Diabetes: A need-to-know guide for those who have been diagnosed with diabetes
Product Description
As a person with diabetes, you are not alone – there are many people in
the United States with this chronic disease. Diabetes can affect various
organs and systems of your body, causing them not to function properly,
and making you more susceptible to infection. For example:
• Your immune system, when functioning properly, readily fights off
harmful bacteria and other pathogens that cause infection. With
diabetes, your immune system may not readily recognize harmful
bacteria or other pathogens. This delay in the body’s natural response
to foreign invasion places a person with diabetes at increased risk for
infection.
• Your gastrointestinal tract, when functioning properly,
allows the foods and beverages you consume to be
digested normally. Diabetes may damage the cells
that create stomach acid and the nerves that help
your stomach and intestinal tract move the food
throughout the intestinal tract. Because of this
damage, your stomach may hold on to the food and
beverages you consume for a longer period of time,
allowing harmful bacteria and other pathogens to
grow.
• Additionally, your kidneys, which work to cleanse
the body, may not be functioning properly and
may hold on to harmful bacteria, toxins, and other
pathogens.
A consequence of having diabetes is that it may
leave you more susceptible to developing infections – like those that
can be brought on by disease-causing bacteria and other pathogens that
cause foodborne illness. Should you contract a foodborne illness, you are
more likely to have a lengthier illness, undergo hospitalization, or even
die. To avoid contracting a foodborne illness, you must be vigilant when
handling, preparing, and consuming foods.
Hypoglycemia / Hypoglycaemia
Song: Enigma – Traces Hypoglycemia, also called low blood sugar, occurs when your blood glucose (blood sugar) level drops too low to provide enough energy for your body’s activities. In adults or children older than 10 years, hypoglycemia is uncommon except as a side effect of diabetes treatment, but it can result from other medications or diseases, hormone or enzyme deficiencies, or tumors. Glucose, a form of sugar, is an important fuel for your body. Carbohydrates are the main dietary sources of glucose. Rice, potatoes, bread, tortillas, cereal, milk, fruit, and sweets are all carbohydrate-rich foods. After a meal, glucose molecules are absorbed into your bloodstream and carried to the cells, where they are used for energy. Insulin, a hormone produced by your pancreas, helps glucose enter cells. If you take in more glucose than your body needs at the time, your body stores the extra glucose in your liver and muscles in a form called glycogen. Your body can use the stored glucose whenever it is needed for energy between meals. Extra glucose can also be converted to fat and stored in fat cells. When blood glucose begins to fall, glucagon, another hormone produced by the pancreas, signals the liver to break down glycogen and release glucose, causing blood glucose levels to rise toward a normal level. If you have diabetes, this glucagon response to hypoglycemia may be impaired, making it harder for your glucose levels to return to the normal range. Information: diabetes …

“Diabetes 2″ – How Changing Your Lifestyle Can Give You Control Over This Dreaded Disease!
Product Description
Diabetes is a disease that affects the way your body uses food. Normally, your body converts sugars, starches and other foods into a form of sugar called glucose. Your body uses glucose for fuel. The cells receive the glucose through the bloodstream. They then use insulin (a hormone made by the pancreas) to absorb the glucose, convert it into energy, and either use it or store it for later use. In diabetes, something goes wrong with this process. Food is changed into glucose, but either your body doesn’t make enough insulin or it can’t properly use the insulin it produces. When the glucose is unable to enter the cells, it begins to build up in the bloodstream. High blood-glucose levels, or as they’re
sometimes known – high blood-sugar levels, are one of the main signs of undiagnosed diabetes. The goal of treatment for all types of diabetes is to keep blood sugar at or near normal levels.

Dr Bohannon describes a newly approved insulin that goes into action and gets out of the body faster, more closely mimicking the body’s natural insulin response to food.

Ways to keep blood sugar levels normal
The world has given us much that most of the time we tend to abuse it instead of use it properly. There are so many examples that we can think of. Food for instance, the basic need of man isn’t appreciated anymore but it is used to the detriment of the body. Food was created for man to live but it was never created in order for man to eat a huge chunk of it even if he knows it’s not good for his body. Vice and bad habits are another thing that the world has shown us and what have we done? We embraced them so tight that we didn’t even care about what would happen to our body. These things and many others are just some of the causes of so many different diseases that pester the world nowadays. Diabetes is one of them. It kills people each day but people can’t blame anybody else but themselves.
Diabetes is caused by smoking, too much drinking, stress, intake of sugary food and obesity. If we really go back to the basic premise of each cause, we would realize that these causes are just caused by our abuse to our basic need – food, entertainment and fun, and the need for money. In our everyday lives, keeping the blood sugar levels normal is one aspect that we have to keep in mind. This is because, from that thought we can control the food that we eat and our lifestyle. Keeping the blood sugar levels normal isn’t that difficult when you don’t have diabetes yet, even when the family has history of diabetes given that it is a hereditary disease.
Here are the ways in keeping the blood sugar levels normal. Food and rest always go hand in hand thus, eating the right kind of food is very necessary. To keep a healthy body, eating vegetables especially the green leafy vegetables will surely prevent diabetes. Drinking a lot of water too is a great way. Doing this and making time for an excellent sleep for at least 7 hours a day keeps the diabetes away. We have to remember that it is not the food that causes diabetes but stress can. Lack of sleep can cause diabetes. Of course to keep the body in shape and energetic, exercise is necessary. Going jogging 3 times a week would be enough just to regulate the blood and keep the body away from obesity which is one cause of diabetes. Some might not know this but eating onions and garlic would also help regulate the blood sugar and help the body organs function properly.
Yes, it might be difficult to keep the blood sugar levels normal but it is better than suffering from the disease. Once the disease has already inflicted your body, there’s no way out. Serious diet, exercise and other more serious treatments that the ones mentioned above will be required by the doctor. Doing those things would keep you away from the hard ways plus you can maintain a healthy lifestyle. We don’t need to deprive ourselves from the beauty and gifts of God but we have to know how to regulate and limit ourselves when it’s too much.
