Does smoking cigarettes an hour or less before a fasting blood test create higher blood sugar levels?

I recently had to do a full blood test where I had to fast for at least 14 hours beforehand. I had nothing but water before I went in which was fine. I did not know that I wasn’t supposed to smoke before so I had 2 cigarettes within the hour of going in for the test. My blood sugar results were 101 which is considered “possible pre-diabetes” if you were fasting. My question would be if it could possibly be the nicotine that caused the jump to right above normal, normal being 99 and below. I’m just wondering if this could be the problem because I’m only 24 years old, exercise normally, am NOT close to being overweight (or underweight, I’m 5’4 and 122 lbs) and have a decent diet, and diabetes does not run in my family so I was just surprised by this occurrence. Wondering if anyone has any insight. FYI — I already asked the nurse I spoke with and she said she was not at liberty to answer and the doctor would have to look everything over after I did another blood test. I’m looking for information, not answers stating “ask your doctor” I already have another appointment for next week.
Thanks for your answers, I didn’t intend to come across saying that you had to be overweight to have diabetes, I was just giving facts just in case someone asked if I was overweight.

my blood sugar levels seem to go down when I ovulate and right before I start, is this normal?

When I ovulate my blood sugar levels will go down into the 50′s. Also the week before I start my period they will dip again and I feel so tired and can’t keep my eyes open. Is this normal and what should I do?

What are Normal figures for Diabetes before and 2 hours after dinner?

The Canadian Meters do not read the same as USA meters – Please tell me the numbers in the USA what your blood sugar should be BEFORE EATING and 2 HOURS AFTER EATING.

Canadian figures should be: 5 before and 7 2 hours after

What is the normal blood sugar level for a seven year old before and after eating?

I tested my child’s blood sugar level a couple hours after eating the other day and it was 296. About an hour later it was 201. I’ve tested her first thing in the morning yesterday (blood sugar was 118) and today (blood sugar was 128) without eating. Should I call the doctor or just continue to watch her? I should mention she’s got bladder/urinary problems also (spastic bladder).

Sorry all i forgot to edit my question before submiting, i was asking the normal range blood sugar for a non?

diabetic. I am not for sure i am getting prediabetes. Some please explain. I havent been feeling well espcially after eating, i get nausious, sweaty, headace sometimes. I decided to do a blood sugar check, as my husband is type 2, and it was 183, i checked it again and it was about the same. So i decided to moniter it and my normal fasting is any where from 93-108 and th normal being around 99. but after meals it can go up to 192 and i just dont feel right. i went to the Dr. she did an insulin resistance and test and it was suppose to come back normal . My question is could it come back normal and could i still have prediabetes. or should she did more testing. I currently am on crestor which now my total cholestrol is only 157, trig 59 my good cholestrol is 60 and my bad cholestrol is only 83 much better from before : ) I am also on vesicare for an over active bladder, i still urniate more than 15 times per day. i am about 12 lbs over weight and had 2 babies over 9lbs. i am concerned.

What are the “normal”, (non-diabetic) blood sugar ranges, before and after meals?

I have diabetes II, and want to use diet and exercise to improve my health. My doctor doesn’t spend much time answering my questions, and I can’t get a straight answer about the normal ranges for blood sugar for non-diabetics, which I want to compare to my own, to see how far off I am (rather than just pulling out pills or insulin to normalize my blood sugar levels. If I find a particular food or activity makes my condition worse, I want to modify my activity level, or food choices. I want to take control of my condition, not just be lazy and take pills.
I am 62, and have diabetes II. I am not significantly overweight (only 20 lbs). I want to take control of my own health, and use diet and exercise to improve my health. I know how my blood sugar reacts when I eat certain foods, but would like to know what the ranges are for “normal”, non diabetics, (before meals, 2 hours after, etc.) so that I can have a goal to work towards. I can’t seem to get a straight answer on this. My doctor said to use insulin “temporarily”, then later said that most people have to stay on it once they start. I know other diabetics whose blood sugar levels are much worse (double what mine are), who don’t use insulin, (though significantly overweight, and inactive) and while I want to improve my condition, I don’t want to do anything stupid, and make my condition worse.

If I have the “normal” range as a goal, and can see how certain foods or activities effect me, I can attempt to modify my food choices and activity level to improve my health.
